Tom Christopher‘s move to Manhattan at the age of 15 found him living on the floor of Blue Oyster Cult’s rehearsal studio in Manhattan. His first audition in New York led to a spot touring with Dion And The Belmont’s and their session player at the famous Bell Studio. After a tour with the Left Banke of “Walk Away Renee,” he hit the London music scene touring with Jack Bruce of Cream and many others of London’s rock scene. It was at this time he met Roger Waters and began to work with avant-garde conceptual artists of the scene, playing art installations with up and coming groups like The Move and The Soft Machine. Known for zen-like extended improvisation, it was written that if “Clapton was God, Tom was Guru.” One of America’s top guitarists, Christopher was courted by David Geffen, but instead signed with Ray Wilson’s ACE who paired Tom with Don Mclean of “American Pie.” A move to Woodstock followed, joining the band Orleans and supporting 3 major hits with Still The One. While touring with Judy Collins and recording with Livingston Taylor, Tom recorded a solo album “Blue Guitar” with friends John Sebastian of Lovin Spoonful, Robbie Dupree, and John Hall lending their talents. “Blue Guitar” was praised for its effortless songwriting and fine guitar receiving, 4 stars from Rolling Stone. Tom’s interest in Indian music and study of the Sitar, led to him joining George Harrison’s friend and slide Guru, Mohann Bhatt, the most famous Indian musician to the west. Despite playing Carnegie Hall 5 times, this was Tom’s proudest professional moment.
